History of The Auxiliary
In March 1950, the formation of the Slater Chemical Auxiliary was put into motion. Five members from the Slater Chemical Fire Company met with 23 ladies and held a meeting at the Glenham Union Free School for the purpose of forming the auxiliary.
The purpose of the Auxiliary is to assist and aid the Slater Chemical Fire Company, as well as cultivate and and extend the social relationship of life to all families in the Glenham Fire District.
On April 13, 1950, the Slater Ladies Auxiliary held their first meeting. Any wife, mother, sister, or daughter of a member in good standing was eligible to join. And over the years, many women did just that!
Today, the Auxiliary accepts any man or woman, regardless of connection to the fire department. The Auxiliary continues to support the fire department in many different ways and allows members of the community another way to give back to their community.
